On a personal note…

May 14, 2008

Those few regular readers have likely noticed that I haven’t been posting much recently. There are a few reasons for this.

First and foremost, I haven’t had the time. I’ve been training as an Assistant Manager (and somewhat of a communications specialist) at the movie theatre where I work. Yes, I got a rather smashing promotion, a roughly 33% increase in pay, and I can successfully use the phrase “I’m Mr. Manager!” multiple times a day. It’s more responsibility (which is a good thing), it’s going to be using my degree (albeit not much, but still), it’s low stress, and it’s in a familiar environment– I’ve been working there literally since the week I moved here.

This opens up some doors. Seeing as how I went from underemployed to only-a-slight-bit-underemployed-but-totally-okay-with-that I now have the luxury of taking my time choosing what I want to do.

Fortunately, I’ve already had an awesome interview. It turns out I won’t be taking the job (not quite a good enough reason to leave what I have), so that change won’t be made, but it’s good to finally have options.

Secondly, nothing particularly interesting has been going on. About all I can say is that I’m very concerned that Arcade Fire is scoring Richard Kelly’s new movie and hope this isn’t a poor career move on their part, even though I strongly believe it is. No combination that seems that awesome in theory will ever, ever come out to be that awesome in reality. Plus, every film Kelly has done except Donnie Darko fucking blows.

Aside from that, the Democrats need to conclude something.  Oh, and the Texas Rangers really need to start winning (most recent headline: “Rangers can’t pull it out in 12″).

Okay– so as I was saying, not only am I really busy with training to be Mr. Manager (ha!  It never gets old!) but I have felt disinterested in much of what’s going on.

Alas!  I shall be going on a two week road trip starting on Monday, May 19th and lasting until June 2nd.  And I will be brining my laptop and camera and will be documenting the entire thing!  I know you can’t wait!

It also looks like I’ll be seeing Tom Waits, Mates of State, Stone Temple Pilots, and My Morning Jacket this summer (totaling about $300).  Regardless, it’s going to kick ass, and expect reviews on all of them.

I just need to plan a Six Flags Trip next…
